Fill Your Creative Cup

How do you fill your cup?

I just turned 33-- and the words that keep coming to mind:

"I like who and how I am becoming".

I entered a creative cocoon this past weekend at an artist retreat with inspiring women. We spent our days diving into our creative pursuits, embracing the magic of nature, sharing our talents, and nourishing each other through cooking, laughter, and dance.

Going into this portal, I felt depleted. Life and the world continue to require more and more of all of us. Despite "doing all the self-care things" in my day-to-day, I was still running on empty. This intentional time filled my cup.

Life will continue to challenge us. We will always have to lift heavy weights and do hard work. So, I’ve been thinking about it like weightlifting lately: How can I do the reps I need to get stronger, yet still know when to put the weights down so I can recover? If I never drop them, my muscles fatigue. When I put the weight down and allow myself time to recover in-between reps, I can lift heavier, and I get stronger.

As we continue to carry the weight, I am remembering to replenish and recover as much as possible. To do this, I am doubling down on joy. Not as a means to bypass pain, but as a way to sustain. I am dancing like a child as much as possible, and fully leaning into microjoys for macrogrief.

And I am doubling down on creativity. Creativity is key to resistance. It reminds us of our agency, helps us alchemize our experiences and process emotions, and recognize our capacity to create the world we live in— and we have the capacity to create anything. We need to keep leaning into joy. We need to keep creating. As Aimee McNee says: “We need your art.”

Release and return. Connect and create.

This life is everything: beautiful, heartbreaking, and everything in between. I am so grateful to be witnessed and to move through it alongside you.

For my birthday, I want you to keep creating! Let me fill your creative cup:

TAKE ACTION💕🔥

Making tiny pots is teaching me how to take tiny actions in my community. 🎨🔥 Big ideas and visions come true when we take tiny steps. Creating teaches me how to do that. 🌀

I am a second-generation immigrant, a Lebanese- Mexican-American woman. Because of the Lebanese and American parts, I look White. But if my skin were a few hues different, I would not be safe. The people ICE are kidnapping and are brutalizing are human beings, US citizens, entrepreneurs, creatives, healers. Its not “criminals”. It’s your neighbors. It’s me. This has me deeply sitting with my privilege and how to speak up and take action. I don't have answers, I am doing it all imperfectly, and I am choosing to show up.

🎉One BIG HELLLL YEAAAHH that happened lately was community coming together to resource share, make calls, send emails, and taking ACTION to stop and ICE detention center from being built in Hanover-- and IT WORKED!!

This is a reminder of our collective power and strength!!! If you are feeling helpless, but ready to take action, here is a google doc with easy action steps as a place to start. And if you have action steps, please reply to this email, and I will add it to the resource sharing!

I also highly recommendand elected officialt s to call an d share yoru conur concerns regarding

"Dance like a child" In a dream, on the night she had an emergency surgery, my grandmother told me that February was going to be one of the hardest months, and the way through was to “dance like a child.” She was right, and I took her advice very literally. This playlist has been my go-to: give it a listen & bust a move! Reply back with any bangers I should add to the playlist! This winter has been a season full of so much joy, so much grief, so much growth — the loss of my grandmother, the...

Remember in high school when you had a CD of all your favorite songs playing in the car 24/7? I deeply remember the songs from that time in my life, the ones that got me through. So I decided to make a 2025 playlist of the songs that carried me through the highs and lows of this year. It has been a wild ride, and I truly believe music heals. So… enjoy this playlist as you read along.😘 Break or Bloom? It's up to you. Feeling empowered after guiding an ATV waterfall hike during Waves of...

Travel, Identity, and Creativity Last month, Will and I traveled to Mexico City. This trip ended up meaning so much more to me than I expected and deeply reconnected me to my roots 💕 Something I don’t often share is my cultural identity. On my dad’s side, both of my great-grandparents are from Lebanon. They migrated to Mexico, where my grandparents met, and my dad was born. When my dad was a baby, my grandfather fled Mexico and came to the U.S., where he opened the first Mexican restaurant in...
